AdVision TV - Creation

Synopsis
Chloe Armstrong's first play was a surprise hit of the London fringe and transferred to a sell-out west-end run with Judi Dench. Five years later and the deadline for the difficult second play is days away. Yet Chloe is only halfway through.

Driven to an exhausted frenzy by writers block, things take a disturbing turn when her typewriter begins to write the script for her. But rather than giving a helping hand in meeting the looming deadline, the typewriter warns "You won't be safe until you're dead". With her house now resonating with the sounds of typing, Chloe can barely leave her study without new sheets appearing. She must decide what is happening and what she can do about it. Is someone trying to scare her? Is she losing her mind? Or is a far darker force at play?

The Production Team
Creation was put together by a small collective of ambitious and experienced young professionals, many of whom first worked with AdVision's Matthew Titterton at DKTV. Writer/director Nic Wistreich, camera operator Tom Fogg and producer Jane McGee met on Westminster University's film degree. Creation was their first fiction project together. They were joined by upcoming actress Rachel Halliwell, whom Nic had directed in the Flying Theatre Group.

Editing and post production came from Francis Morgan Giles who had edited two documentaries with Nic. Production Designer Jen Geary just completed working on the new Sally Phillips feature Gladiatress and worked with Jane formerly on The End of the Garden. Sound designer, recordist and composer Ben Walker, also graduated from Westminster (MA in Audio Production) with a background as a classical composer, producer and songwriter.

Director Nic Wistreich says:
"Without Advision this production would not have been possible - not just in providing a complete, highly-specced and well maintained kit, and not just in the skills and expertise to ensure broadcast standards were maintained throughout - but also the commitment and energy to shoot a highly demanding film in a very short space of time.
"Advision's Matthew Titterton arrived on set with not just a complete camera, sound and lighting kit, but all the extras needed to help the technical side of the production run smoothly, such as gels, laptop, digital camera, spare cables and power adapters.

"But of most value was his broad extensive knowledge, and tireless work attitude. Matt was able to apply himself to a huge variety of tasks: checking exposure levels and camera settings; selecting the right lenses for each shot; lighting to ensure consistency between shots; and supporting other members of the team with technical help. Matt is particularly versatile as a problem solver - he used a small lighting kit and set of reflectors to recreate daylight and to simulate moonlight. For example in one shot of the film, where Chloe knocks over a cup of coffee, was set at night in the living room but had to be recreated the following day in the kitchen in close-up. Matthew managed to match lighting and tone seamlessly so that in the finished film the big difference in locations and time cannot be seen. As if these skills weren't enough, Matt was tirelessly committed on set, and this energy was key to us shooting over 50 set-ups a day."
